I never like to say ‘best’ because that’s very subjective. I do have some favorites though. These are in chronological order.
First show of 2013: Purity Ring. Webster Hall’s lighting complimented that of Purity Ring.
DIIV – Kidrockers at Brooklyn Bowl. Still my favorite Kidrockers show at Brooklyn Bowl to date.
Esben and the Witch, Knitting Factory – so great live.
Majical Cloudz at Von. This was the first on several of their shows I had the pleasure of attending this year (including a KEXP session). They are amazing.
Ex-Cult at Beekman Beer Garden – One of the best concert shooting moments ever. He was stomping on the stage While I was pressed against it. It was kind of like he was kicking me in the chest (but it didn’t hurt). So visceral.
Swans at Warsaw. The reason that I shot Northside this year is because I wanted that kick.
Stayin’ Alive 30 Year Tribute Party at Union Hall – I shoot shows for Leslie Goshko every month but this was one special show and stands out above the sideshow this year.
Oberhofer – McCarren Park. Love them and finally got some photos that I liked.
Thao and the Get Down Stay Down at Pier 84. Powerful.
(the) Melvins at House of Vans – really? You need a reason?
Suuns at Le Poisson Rouge – Hell yes to LPR for lighting a band that always plays in the dark (love Suuns).
Zola Jesus at Our Lady of Lebenon Cathedral – When Nika jumped on the altar, I gasped. No one else noticed.
Yamantaka / Sonic Titan at 285 Kent – they were as amazing to listen to as to look at.
Augustines at Webster Hall – Always my favorites. Love these guys.
Rock Lottery at Knitting Factory – This day is loads of fun, loooong, but fun.
