Award-winning storyteller and Huffington Post blogger Leslie Goshko hosts tonight’s curated evening of original poetic works that’s sure to Kick Assonance! Join co-creators Kyle Erickson (“Enduro’s Lament”) and Steven Leyva (“Low Parish”) as they welcome fellow authors Jeff Simpson, Mary Cool, and Andrew Schep for an evening of original poetry that Time Out New York magazine named a “Critics’ Pick.”

Readers:

Kyle Erickson is co-creator of the poetry series Kick Assonance, which has been noted by the Poetry Foundation, The Academy of American Poets, hailed as a “Critics’ Pick” by Time Out New York Magazine, and called “a notable New York Event” by The Rumpus. Kyle’s work can be read in This Land Press, Promethia, B’More Poetic, and on his blog, okieinthecity.com, which was heralded as a “Top 101 New York Blog.” His first book of poetry, Enduro’s Lament, was released last fall.

Steven Leyva is the author of the recently released book of poetry, Low Parish, and co-creator of the poetry series Kick Assonance. His poems have appeared in Welter, The Light Ekphrastic, and The Cobalt Review where his poem “Rare in the East” won the 2012 Cobalt Review Poetry Prize. He holds a MFA from the University of Baltimore, where he teaches in the undergraduate writing program.

Jeff Simpson grew up in southwest Oklahoma in a home decorated with taxidermic marvels. He is the author of Vertical Hold (Steel Toe Books, 2011), which was a finalist for The National Poetry Series. His poems have recently appeared in Forklift, Ohio, Prairie Schooner, Cimarron Review, Harpur Palate and others. He now lives in Brooklyn, NY, where he works for Poets & Writers Magazine and edits The Fiddleback, an online arts & literature magazine.

Mary Cool first started writing short fiction in 2008, when she began workshopping with Beth Ann Bauman at the Writer’s Voice–one of the longest-running writing programs in NYC. Since then, she’s studied with authors Myla Goldberg and Susan Breen, and will soon be participating in an intensive 4-day workshop led by Narrative Magazine co-founder Tom Jenks. This past September, she launched Captivated Audience (at captivatedaudience.blogspot.com), where she blogs about the art of reading fiction from a writer’s point of view. Her first published short story is forthcoming in the online journal, Hogglepot, in March 2013.

Andrew Schep is a Presbyterian minister from Canada currently living in Syracuse, New York, where he studies at the Downtown Writer’s Center. His poetry appears in the most recent issue of Oberon.
