Gallery: Kidrockers 11/19/20

It’s always a special treat to head out to Philadelphia for Kidrockers. Up at 6:00am, on a shuttle bus by 7:00am, the subway by 7:30 and the Bolt Bus by 8:15 — totally worth it. This installment of our Philly series had Pearl and the Beard. I was really happy to see them back on the show as I thought they’d be a perfect fit from the first time I ever saw them play. Hosted by Seth Herzog and Craig Baldo.

Gallery: Youth Lagoon, Young Magic 11/15/11

Tuesday night at Mercury Lounge. I had the pleasure of shooting this show with Amanda (and Rachel reviewing). Youth Lagoon was wonderful – I stayed for the whole set (minus the encore) in order to hear the live version of July. I listen to that song obsessively on my iPod… Young Magic was really good – I just wish that there was some light so I could have photographed them well. It may have been the worst lighting I’ve ever shot in….really.

Gallery: Prince Rama, Indian Jewelry, Doldrums

I braved the shuttle bus and two trains to head out to Cameo Gallery on Saturday night. I was determined to finally see Prince Rama as I have narrowly missed them for years. They were worth the trip. Doldrums opened the show, I had seen him during CMJ and he seems like a very likable guy. Next up was Prince Rama who packed the room. Next, Indian Jewelry… I really liked them but had to flee the strobe lights. I walked out that night, nauseous. II really wish the light situation was different because I was enjoying their set.

Gallery: Oakie in the City Artist Collective

Thursday night at Nuyorican Poets Cafe was a treat. Saw Michelle-Leona Godin perform her avant accordion brain smash. There was poetry from Christian Ericson, Steven Leyva and Kyle Erickson. Then, the very first performance of Single White Band (Andy Christie, Colin Dempsey, Leslie Goshko and Daniela Schiller).

Gallery: Crooked Fingers, Strand of Oaks 11/4/11

This was an amazing show to attend. The small, intimate space of Mercury Lounge was perfect for Crooked Fingers. Strand of Oaks was wonderful and a perfect opener.

Gallery: We Are Augustines 10/21/11

Shooting CMJ usually means taking a few photos of many, many bands. This is the only set that I shot as if it were a regular show. I’ve seen We Are Augustines (former members of Pela) perform this way before but it’s been a while and I couldn’t help shooting 8gb’s of photos for a 35 minute set (oops).

Gallery: Kidrockers – 10/22/11 – CMJ Show

A few weeks ago, Kidrockers had it’s first official CMJ showcase. We were pretty excited to have Datarock and Cookies perform. The show was hosted by Craig Baldo and Roger Hailes. It was the first time in about 5 years that I was able too have the Sunday after CMJ off to edit since we were able too be a part of the festival this year. Thank you, CMJ.

Unfortunately, the Pumpkin Festival at Central Park was cancelled, although I couldn’t make it at the last minute anyway. We were happy that Caveman was playing this show the next day. They were joined by the always entertaining, Spirit Family Reunion. Hosted by Seth Herzog and Craig Baldo.
