Last minute plans brought me to Brooklyn Denim on Thursday night to see Oberhofer. I only shot a few photos as the place was quite crowded and I was not really in the mood to procure a good spot. Plus, it’s nice to listen once in awhile to bands that I shoot often.

This was a night that I was glad for the drip drip drip of the AC inside of Glasslands as it would have been unbearable without it. The placed was packed which meant that my photog buddy Jess and I stood on opposite sides of the room and used her husband to secure the spot so we could switch later (he rocks hard!). EMA went on after midnight which meant I had to split early but the show was really good.
Talk Normal had an amazing set and sounded fantastic although only lit by two red light bulbs which made it difficult to get any shots at all.
I was not familiar with Abblehearts but thoroughly enjoyed his set.

Today is my daughter’s 21st birthday. She has made me happy and proud each day for all of these years. I will not be taking a photo of her today as she is currently residing in Buffalo but look forward to hearing about how she spent her day.

Last night, my dear friends, White Birds (ex Drink Up Buttercup) played their first NYC show at Glasslands to an audience that braved the heat to listen to these new songs. They play again in Tuesday at Pianos. I urge you to check it out.

Although I started the day with train delays and rerouting nightmares it was a fun time. It’s always good to shoot with some of your favorite photogs and meet a few new ones as well. Thanks to Amanda for the sunscreen, Chris for letting me sit on his stool (and watch his gear), and Dave for giving me the birthday gift of shooting the show for Prefix.
The plan to shoot some of the DJ sets was abandoned after a trip over to the indoor lounge to shoot BRAHMS and discovering that not only were they too far away to photograph but they were in virtual darkness as well (sorry, Cale). Though, I must admit that not having to run back and forth made the day easier.
There were 6 bands playing, Mr. Dream, Eleanor Friedberger, Oberhofer, Davila 666, Titus Andronicus, The Black Angels, each having quite different sounds and stage presence. The crowd surfing during Davilla 666 and Titus were really the best parts to shoot. After awhile, they were all I really wanted to shoot. During Oberhofers set, I noticed that the sound guys were dancing along – such a pleasure to see Brad grow into the dynamic performer that I saw on Saturday.

On Friday night, I was supposed to shoot at The Seaport (which I LOVE). Unfortunately, rain moved the show indoors to Littlefield. As I sat on the Fourth Avenue F train station watching my titter feed, texting with a fellow photographer who was waiting at the Seaport for more info and checking email, I got the feeling that it was going to become a very late night. The new set times were announced, Weekend at 10 and The Wake at 11 (doors at 9). I spent my evening drinking Chai Tea outside of The Root Cafe on the corner of Carroll and Fourth Avenue killing time. Once the bands started to play it all became worth it.

This is the first gallery that I shot for Impose which I’m going to contribute to in addition to Prefix as they don’t generally request the same shows. I haven’t been to Glasslands since they moved the stage. I like the position of the stage against the back wall and it seems easier to shoot in there than before.

Kick Assonance, an evening of poetry reading created by Kyle Erickson and Leslie Goshko was super fun. There were hand made poetry books made by Steven Leyva which were absolutely beautiful with poems by Kyle Erickson, Steven Leyva, Sei Shiroma and Christian Ericson. It was quite wonderful to hear them read their work to us in the intimate space of The Sackett, Leslie Goshko hosted.

Friday night (7/1/11) at the Seaport. This was so much fun. It was a beautiful evening and a low key shoot with the pit filled with photog friends. Lower Dens had a great set – last time I saw them during CMJ at Bruar Falls, an out of town photog nearly knocked me off my feet as he crawled long the floor. I was not familiar with Dirty Beaches and enjoyed his set.
