New Song by Christian Doscher

Bar Matchless 1/26/07

From Christian Doscher:
When it’s been a long time coming,
Acknowledgement of a resultant position,
Should never be mistaken for the path,
Paved slowly pebble by pebble,
Throughout years of misgiving,
“Not in one conversation did the two of us become estranged…”

Francis and The Lights

At the end of 2007, I put together a list of my 15 favorite shows this year. Some of the bands on my list were probably no surprise to many of you. The big surprise was my #1 favorite – Francis and the Lights (sorry my loves). In all honesty, I had no expectations of this band – I had gone to Galapagos to meet my friend Brendon and take his portrait for my 30 Portraits project. I was completely blown away by Francis and The Lights– never have I seen such energy mixed with such soulfulness. Well, friends, you now have the opportunity to see them for yourselves. They are playing at Mercury Lounge on Saturday, January 26th at 9:30. It’s where I’ll be!

Drink Up Buttercup

This was an amazing show!! Drink Up Buttercup will be playing a residency at Pianos the last two Tuesdays of February (19th & 26th) and the first Tuesday of March (the 4th). . Check them out!

Smack Mellon: Site 92: Phase II opening

On Saturday night, at 68 Jay Street Bar, I met my friends Jeff and Ces. 68 Jay Street is actually a very comfortable neighborhood bar in DUMBO – I’d recommend it. Then we were off to Smack Mellon for the opening of Site 92: Phase II. I happen to really enjoy installation. I like it much better than painting and often, more than photography. There’s something special to me about an artist creating a piece that is meant to take up space. These installations were site specific. They are all related in their way to the neighborhood and the industrial space. The exhibit runs through February 24, 2008.

Then we were off to dinner and I took some photos through the front window of Joya which reflected Court Street outside – I like these photos.

KiDROCKERS – 1/13/08 at The Living Room

Kidrockers is a concert series that began in January 2007 that brings some of the most engaging and vital artists in indie music and comedy to perform for kids and their parents. These all ages shows are designed to bring families together to enjoy new music. Artists perform original (not specifically made for children) songs in a manner that is both authentic and kid-friendly. Past artists include Bishop Allen, The Spinto Band, Locksley, Chris Barron, Undisputed Heavyweights, Levy, Looker, Craig Baldo, Reggie Watts, Wakey!Wakey! and The Bloodsugars. Hosted by Seth Herzog.

“We love to hear great new music — and so do our kids”; says Kidrockers founder Beth Lorge. “We want to create an opportunity for kids and parents to discover artists and get to see them play live in a fun, safe and comfortable environment.”
