I’ve seen a few interesting things from the windows of 1221 and now two of them are connected. Back on 9/11 I, along with many of my coworkers watched in horror as the world trade center was attacked and watched the towers fall right in from of our eyes. Yesterday from different windows on the same floor we watched the The USS New York, whose bow stem includes seven and a half tons of steel recovered from the World Trade Center’s twin towers sail down the Hudson River. It was with mixed emotions as I watched… a battleship – the towers were created and destroyed and this ship was created and will perhaps one day destroy – cycles…
And on a more aesthetics note – I think the ship is ugly – odd because I thought the twin towers were ugly too.
It also made me remember my friend John, who we lost on 9/11 and will always miss….
So, I wrote a post about crisis and friendship (or lack thereof) and saved the draft – then I realized that their were only two people that were completely insensitive to me and decided to change my entry. I want to thank everyone that has been supportive of me during these past few months – I won’t know the outcome of this job thing for a few weeks and it’s very stressful but it’s good to have you as my my friends
Full galleries are on Prefix but I wanted a record here of all the CMJ ‘09 performances that I attended. This is pretty much in chronological order.
Highlights:
Drink Up Buttercup at Brooklyn Brewery and The Delancey (it was also really nice to have dinner with you on Friday).
Japandroids – What a night at The Bell House – there was so much stage diving that I had to go and stand on a bench at the side of the venue – fun, fun, fun!
Dinowalrus at Cake Shop
Kria Brekken at Cameo
Peasant and Blood Warrior at Bruar Falls
Zaza at Cake Shop
Screaming Females at Mercury Lounge
Sian Alice Group at Knitting Factory
Hanging with Bryan and Jenna – you Mainers are a blast ![]()
Running into Chris La Putt at the Marie Stella show at The Delancey – it was good to see you
Lowlights:
Being trapped in the Mercury Lounge on Wednesday night and missing DUB’s showcase ![]()
Running into a friend that I hadn’t seen for months and he was rather hostile to me – hope things get better for you.
One broken laptop
Disrupted F Train service
Being shut out of a few shows that I would have liked to shoot
All in all a pretty good time was had.
Many thanks to Prefix for letting me cover CMJ for them!
